Warrington to host the 2013 Rugby League World Cup

July 1, 2013

The 14th Rugby League World Cup tournament comes to the UK at the end of this year, and hotels in Warrington and the surrounding area are gearing up to receive legions of exuberant fans from all over the world.

Teams from as far afield as Papua New Guinea, Fiji and Tonga will arrive to do battle with some of the UK’s domestic talent. New Zealand will look to defend their title and with Great Britain currently riding on a wave of sporting success, the challenge will surely be fierce.

As well as the more traditional locations for these events, such as the Cardiff Millennium Stadium, Wembley and Old Trafford, Langtree Park in St. Helens and The Halliwell Jones Stadium in Warrington will host crucial games in groups A and B.

On November 2nd, St. Helens residents will have the chance to see Australia, who lost out in the final to New Zealand last time around, take on Fiji. On October 27th in Warrington, there is an opportunity to see the current champions, New Zealand, begin their campaign against Samoa. Later in the tournament, the teams return to The Halliwell Jones Stadium when the runner up in group B will take on the third placed team from group A.

With the tickets for the bigger events in Cardiff, Manchester and London bound to sell out in no time at all, and a limited number of fixtures, the smaller venues provide an excellent opportunity to see crucial games of world class rugby up close and without the excessive price tag.
