Heswall Arts Festival highlights creativity on the Wirral

High art will take over the Wirral at the end of September, as the Heswall Arts Festival returns for a celebration of all things creative.

The festival loosely adopts the theme ‘the Art of…’ but this is not restricted to those things that typify creativity, such as music, art or drama. The organisers have embraced events that people may not necessarily appreciate as ‘creative’, such as food and drink, astronomy, hairdressing and even science.

The fortnight of events, also set to include workshops where the casual visitor can try their hand at something new and adventurous, runs from September 28 until October 12 and will utilise venues all over Heswall and the surrounding areas. People from up and down the country will be displaying their crafts in cafes and halls, with some even taking to the streets.

The festival is funded entirely by donations from visitors, so its success is entirely based on the appreciative nature of its patrons and the generosity of its attendees.

Last year saw 105 events staged over the two-week period with more than 5,000 estimated visitors. Organisers are hoping to build on this success this year with the return of their ‘First Rung’ showcase, which is designed to inspire new artists from any of the featured genres to perform in front of open and appreciative crowds.

Wirral hotels are enjoying the fringe benefits of having such a highly acclaimed festival on their doorstep as consumers of creativity from up and down the country, as well as individuals looking for inspiration, flock to the area.
