Inaugural jazz weekend set to strike a chord in Liverpool

Filed under: Liverpool — Posted by: Deborah on January 4, 2013

A new four-day festival of jazz music has recently been announced by the Capstone Theatre, and fans of the genre from across Britain have just under two months to start looking for a Liverpool hotel to make the most of an extended weekend of jazzy entertainment.

The first Liverpool International Jazz Festival will welcome artists from across the world, as well as those from a fresh and emerging UK scene, at a venue that has been hosting regular jazz concerts for the past two years.

There will be plenty of variety on show during the event, from the dark, bass-driven sounds of Leeds outfit Roller Trio to the vibrant stylings of the Kit Downes Quintet. Liverpool is a city known for its musical heritage and with local acts like Martin Smith’s The Weave, Blind Monk Trio and White Canvas on show, guests are sure to see that the city’s jazz scene is in keeping with the rich musical influence synonymous with the city. The festival concludes with a performance from legendary multi-instrumental musician Courtney Pine.

With workshops on saxophone acoustics and improvisation also on offer, the festival will no doubt be a welcome addition to the city’s annual musical celebrations. It is also hoped that it will go on to become a yearly event at the Capstone Theatre.

The Jazz Festival is scheduled to keep revellers entertained from Thursday 28th February until Sunday 3rd March, with further information available on the Capstone Theatre’s website, as well as the event’s dedicated Facebook and Twitter pages.
